I got promoted!
A while ago I was a guest blogger for my school’s fashion blog, Fashion School Daily but now they’ve asked me to be a permanent blogger. I’ll be submitting a new post every week. Exciting!!! Though, I will have to probably sound a little bit more professional. Anyway—
Dino asked me to blog about current things in fashion. I wanted to do model profiles but apparently we already have a blogger who’s also a working model. Oh well..

They Died with Their Boots On

We talked about them. I blogged about them once too — when I was still into the whole Gaga thing. It’s the Alexander McQueen alienesque boots. The kind of shoes that are otherworldly and are not meant to be worn by muggles on a daily basis; unless your name is Daphne and your last name is Guinness.
Words on the street are: the shoes are not freshly from Alex’s brain. He copied the idea from an early 80’s band, called The Tubes.
It’s not a major, jaw-dropping news because after all, a lot of designers take inspirations from old movies or ancient cultural references. But, let’s just take a look anyway.
If you’re like me: can’t stand heavy metal and the eighties, I recommend you to fast forward to 1.00.
Impressed?

Skinny is Out. Healthy is in?

Skinny.
This issue has been discussed for quite a while now. Many believe that Twiggy came up with this distorted idea of beauty when she first emerged with her blonde boyish haircut and her waif figure in the 60’s. Others blame it on Rachel Zoe, Kate Moss, but it’s always believed that this idea of beauty was promoted by the fashion industry.
In the 80’s and 90’s, models are size 6, while in today’s runway shows, models are size 2-4 (contrary to popular beliefs, they’re not size 0.)
But,
As Heidi Klum always preaches: “In fashion, one day you’re in, and the next day you’re out,” this thindemic might possibly came to its end — or at least reaching its end.
V Magazine dedicates an issue just to address the Size Issue.

V Magazine Size Issue
To be honest, I don’t like neither of the covers. I always am a fan of V covers, but not these two. Gabourey Sidibe looks very unflattering and Dakota’s hair is too tall for words. It reminds me of a coconut tree. Anyway-
There is one editorial, shot by Terry Richardson, which I like to call Compare and Contrast.

Jacquelyn Jablonski & Crystal Renn by Terry Richardson
While, I am not a big fan of comparing and contrasting, I got the point there. A friend of mine mentioned this — which I find interesting — Crystal Renn isn’t that big. In the fashion industry, Crystal is what we called Plus-size or Full-figured model. Is this the new ideal beauty?
Is Crystal the new Sasha, Jessica, or Snejana?
I, for one, believe that the Proenza Schouler looks better on the skinny model. I was born in the 90’s and started following the industry in 2005. I didn’t know any other idea of beauty other than Snejana’s or Sasha’s. I had no idea that Tyra Banks was a size 6 when she walked down the Chanel runway somewhere in her golden era.
Even from the menswear perspective, I noticed that Prada boys are getting ‘bigger.’ Miuccia is notorious for using super-thin boys. David Sciola once mentioned that he won’t even go to a Prada casting because he knows he won’t fit the samples.
But take a look at this model from Prada Fall 2010 Menswear:

He doesn’t have that usual Prada boys’ vibe, which I love: fragile and frail. This guy looks healthy!
Is healthy the new thin? Well, it has been a while after Moss’ era.

Modelinia just informed us the newest H&M girls for their next campaign ad:
Sasha Pivovarova, Missy Rayder, and Malgosia Bela.

I don’t remember when was the first time, but this certainly is not Sasha’s first time doing H&M campaign ad. Sasha was Miuccia’s muse for quite a while. Her look was compared to Gemma Ward when she first started to model — they uncannily look identical!

Sasha is my favorite model (you know, I have a thing for Prada boys and Prada girls) so I’m happy to see her face everytime I march around the Union Square of San Francisco.

P.S. I’m on Sasha’s Facebook friend list!
